Not many central banks publish details of the remuneration levels of their Governors. The SARB Governor receives a salary that is comparable to the Reserve Bank of New Zealand Governor, while the Bank of England’s Governor receives more than 50% higher remuneration in USD based on data for 2021. In SARB’s case, the Governor’s salary is almost 100 times the country’s Gross National Income per capita.
The spike in the Bank of England Governor remuneration reflected the appointment of Mark Carney, whose total package included higher taxable benefits.
